The Guild of Strings was joined by cellist Polly Virr for a concert at St. Andrews on Psalter Lane.
Summer Lovin' - 23rd July 2022
The Guild of Strings joined with Newland Symphonic Pop in a concert at St. Andrews, Psalter Lane. The audience enjoyed songs by Adele, Queen, Elvis, Ed Sheeran and more.
Summer Serenade Around the British Isles - 11th June 2022
The Guild of Strings was joined by Conductor and Clarinetist Neil Aston in a special concert to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen. The programme included Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Holst’s St. Paul’s Suite, Finizi’s 5 Bagatelles and the World Premier of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture arranged for string orchestra by Julie Doubleday .
Concert in Memory of Paul - 6th March 2022
The Guild of Strings partnered with The Hallam Sinfonia Strings to present a very special concerts in memory of our friend and colleague Paul Schatzberger who sadly passed away in 2020.
Paul had retired from medicine in 2007 and then devoted himself to his music and photography. An excellent violinist, he last performed in the virtual ensembles during the Covid-19 pandemic. |
We'll Meet Again - 8th May 2020
During the Covid-19 lockdown, The Guild of Strings were delighted to be joined by professional opera singers Andrea Ryder and Mark Cunningham in a special performance of We'll Meet Again to celebrate VE Day 2020.
Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Lockdown 2020
As a an ensemble, we missed being able to play together, so The Guild of Strings joined together from our living rooms to create this version of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik movement 1.
Valentine's Concert - 14th February 2020
On our last concert before the COVID19 Lockdown, the Guild of Strings presented a concert with Sonority Choir at Whirlow Spirituality Centre. The programme featured a variety of pieces including: Danny Boy, Massenet's Meditation from Thaïs and Eric Whitacre's ‘Five Hebrew Love Songs’.
Winter Celebration - 17th December 2019
The Guild of Strings once again teamed up with Sonority Choir to present a special Winter Celebration Concert at Samuel Worth Chapel.
Strings, Songs and Story-telling - 12th October 2019
A special autumn evening with the Guild of Strings and guest Caroline Hallam, this concert centred on the fabulous string sextet from Strauss’s opera Capriccio.
The programme also featured music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss and Edward Elgar, as well as songs, stories and poetry from the world of stage and screen. Capriccio’s theme can be summarized as ‘Which is the greater art - poetry or music?” It tells the story of a Countess torn between two suitors: one a composer, one a poet. Caroline and the Guild pondered this creative dilemma as they led the audience through fine examples of both arts from the Classical, Operatic, Musical Theatre and Pop repertoires. Audience members were asked to swap ideas of favourite songs, stories or poems with each other. |
Sketching With Strings - 9th March 2019
An art workshop with a difference, both the young and the young at heart were welcomed to come along and make artworks inspired by the English countryside while The Guild of Strings played music by Edward Elgar, Benjamin Britten and Gustav Holst.
Folk Forest - 22nd July 2018
The Guild of Strings appeared at the Folk Forest 2018 as part of the Concerteenies family events.
Family Friendly Concert - 29th October 2017
The inaugural concert of The Guild of Strings was a very special concert held at Yellow Arch Studios. This sold out concert featured Polly Ives as presenter and raised money for Jessie's Fund.
